S.O.S. programme
In January 2003 we started with the S.O.S. training programs.
The letters 'S.O.S.' means ‘Send an orphan to school’. At present about 60 orphans and other vulnerable children get education thanks to this program, from basic education to vocational training. It gives them a chance for a better future where they can care for themselves.

The S.O.S. training program does not stop at paying school fees. These children often suffer from lack of everything. They are supervised and provided with school supplies, food, clothing and medical care.
Most children live with (distant) poor family members who cannot provide schooling and proper care. It is for instance common that a grandmother has some grandchildren under her care and no income (there are no social services in Uganda).
There are a lot of orphans in Northern Uganda. The parents are in most cases deceased due to AIDS or by rebel attacks. Under the traditional system, these children are taken care of by family members but sometimes there are no family members at all. Or these family members already have too many children of their own to take care of these orphans. If there is no one to take care of these children, our orphanage will take them in.
Boarding school
In Uganda it is compulsory that the children, in their last years of primary school, are at boarding school (even though they live next to the school!). This is a weird system that is not always nice for the kids and entails a lot of extra costs.
Enrolled children
The children currently enrolled in the S.O.S. programme can be divided as follows:
Total children S.O.S. Programme |
37 |
- Primary school | 11 |
- Secondary school/Vocational training | 25 |
- University | 1 |
- Living in our orphans home House of Grace | 27 |

Costs
To go to school the children also need transport money, textbooks (20.000 Ush each). On top of that every school also asks for a contribution in kind: 25 kilo’s of beans and 30 kilo’s of maize (36.000,00 Ush). To be accepted at a school you have to pay an admission fee. Then there is the identity card, badge, 5 pictures, exam fees, bag of cement, ream of duplicating paper, etc.
These amounts are in Ugandan Shillings.
1 pound = 4000 Ush, 1 US dollar = 2500 Ush and 1 Euro = 3200 Ush.

Please help us to give these children a future!
The team of LindA Foundation is trying to give as many children as possible an education and care. Unfortunately the programme is full right now. Hundreds of children are on a waiting list. We hardly have the funds to pay for the children that are enrolled. We really need your financial support! We don’t want to leave these children to fend for themselves and we want to make sure that they can continue with their education. Please read the "how to support" page on our website for more details.
